The Engagement Dilemma: Employee Engagement Starts with Engaged Leadership
Management is about managing things and processes.
Leadership is about influencing people. It’s not about the position or title leaders hold. It’s about the leader’s ability to influence others, specifically team members, to align with the vision and to accomplish the mission,
Effective, engaged leaders know how and when to do both.
When those in positions of formal authority such as team leaders, supervisors, managers, etc. are disengaged, they must depend on their title and authority to manage not only things and processes, but also people.
When people are “managed,” they become disengaged. When people are “led,” they become highly engaged. Unfortunately, many organizations and people are over-managed and under-led.
Many leaders don’t realize that disengaged employees are a symptom of disengaged leaders at one or more levels in the organization. In fact, research shows 79% of employees are, on average, 40% more productive and engaged when working for a better leader.
This is because better leaders have a greater ability to positively influence and engage their team members at a higher level.
The level of engagement below is determined by the level of engagement above.
Unfortunately, it’s common for many team leaders, supervisors, and managers to be promoted from within or to be hired from the outside without ever receiving any type of formal leadership development training. They’re always expected to lead, often without ever being taught how to lead. According to research, 87% of managers wish they had more training before becoming a manager.
Blue-Collar Leadership® & Supervision training allows you to develop the leaders of your front line workforce, so you can tap into your organization’s biggest asset – your people. Leadership impacts the character and culture of an organization, which in turn affects everything else. Leadership, or the lack of it, affects morale, employee engagement, teamwork, communication, customer service, employee turnover, and productivity.
“As a leader, and ultimately a mentor, you have the responsibility and privilege to grow those around you and help them become their absolute best.” ~ Mike Davis
Blue-Collar Leadership®& Supervision: Unleash Your Team’s Potential was created specifically to help develop those with leadership positions, and those who aspire to lead, move far beyond traditional management and supervision toward high impact leadership. The book has been intentionally formatted with only 90 pages (30 chapters, 3 pages each) for easy reading and for conducting book studies with leaders at all levels.
Engage the Employees by Engaging the Leaders
“Very practice advice for manufacturing managers and supervisors!”
“Thank you for hosting the Blue-Collar Leadership training class. Hoshizaki America sent four attendees and they all had positive feedback. They stated it really inspired them to want to have courage to do the right thing and work hard to be a team with their co-workers.”
“Mack and Ria understand people! The dynamic team made such an impact on our front line of supervision that they were begging for more training! …We highly recommend Mack and Ria – whether you need a bump start for your leaders or are growing organically – they deliver!”
“Ria and Mack have opened up a world for our team individually and collectively. The training brought out confidence and enthusiasm from persons who needed the opportunity to know that they were significant. They are hungry for more information about how to influence others and the momentum is rolling. Your genuine approach and authenticity make it safe to grow and learn. Thank you for what you have done for Cobb County.”
“This book is a great sequel to Blue Collar Leadership (BCL) and targeted towards those already in leadership positions. It builds on the leadership principles presented in BCL and discusses how to effectively lead teams applying these principles. Mack is a fresh new addition to the Leadership genre with a new twist on timeless principles which apply to everybody but are targeted to the under-appreciated front line workers and those who support them.”
“Joining forces with Mack was a revolutionary opportunity for our company. We have achieved incredible results while witnessing the growth and development of our associates as they have been empowered.”
“For me, it’s been the best six months for training and growth in my 38 years here.”
“I used Ria and Mack for training of a group of change management leaders and also a group of manufacturing senior leaders. Ria and Mack’s training was very relevant and very inspiring. Their delivery kept the group engaged! I would definitely use them again and would recommend them to anyone needing to motivate your group or for leader training. Awesome!”
